My featured work is a mixture of traditional art media and fine art papers combined with inkjet prints.
As an artist who uses digital technology in the creation of my art, I also incorporate traditional art media into my pieces. I always start the process with a photographic image I have captured digitally. Using a stylus and graphics tablet, I use PhotoShop and Corel Painter software applications to further enhance the image, utilizing digital brushes, blenders and paints to alter my original image in a painterly fashion and take it to another level. Sometimes I use a single image; other times I create digital collage from several images.
When my piece is ready to print I do not use coated inkjet papers. By not coating the paper, I achieve a soft, dreamy effect with non-saturated colors. I find it exciting to print on a variety of surfaces. I comb art supply and paper warehouses to find interesting papers with which to experiment, including fine art drawing papers, watercolor and silk screen papers, and rice and mulberry papers from around the world. Some papers are embedded with fibers and organic additions like petals and leaves that create beautiful textures like banana and mango papers.
After printing the image, I embellish it with traditional art media including watercolor, acrylic, pastel, pencil, ink or wax. These additions further enhance the work by adding a dimensionality and feeling that goes beyond a flat, traditional inkjet print giving each piece an individuality and uniqueness that is very desirable to me.
